What is “RECHT FÜR DEUTSCHLAND”?

In Germany the official text of every law is published in a law gazette. RECHT FÜR DEUTSCHLAND is the largest electronic collection of German law gazettes. It contains over 1.3 million pages from 40 publications with the official text of all German Federal and State laws, as well as the administrative regulations issued by dozens of government departments and agencies. The collection provides complete coverage of all the laws enacted by the German Federal government since its establishement in 1949. It is updated daily.

In addition, Recht für Deutschland offers coverage of the official law gazette of the German Reich back to 1871, and the North German Bund back to 1868. It also offers complete coverage of the law gazette of the former German Democratic Republic (“East Germany”) from 1949 to 1990.

Now with English interface

Recht für Deutschland offers an English language interface to make German law more widely accessible. Users outside Germany may be more familiar with the terms and presentation of an English language interface. Rather than require users to learn a German interface, we have created this version to make it easy for users to focus on the issues in German law of interest to them.

Fulltext Research and Backfile

In Germany the official text of every law is published in a law gazette. Where the exact wording of a law must be referenced, direct access to the official version of the appropriate gazette must be obtained. RfD provides this in electronic image format, along with a fulltext shadow file to facilitate fulltext research. The archival collection of the German Democratic Republic law can be searched through its table of contents. The archival collections of the German Reich and North German Bund are available in image format only without fulltext in shadow.
